How does one train to run one marathon a day for 7 months?
This is the question I am asking myself as I prepare for the 2011 Run To Remember to raise awareness for BrainTrust.ca Brain Trust Canada and Brain Injury survivors.
Today I am downloading my Marathon training schedule into my Garmin. GARMIN Marathon Training Schedules Downloads This is a really cool feature; it allows me to pick the date of my marathon, plus the pace of marathon. Then I just download the schedule through the Garmin Training Center and it syncs into my Garmin.
In my other blogs Life with Brain Injury and Brain Injury Survivor's guide to the Ironman I talk in depth about the features of the Garmin from the point of a view of someone who suffered a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).
A quick recap is this: for those that suffer from memory loss, Garmin devices help you keep your training going. It's like having a live coach yell at you to speed up, slow down, or follow specific training schedules. It also has a GPS tracker that helps you find your way back home on some of those crazy long runs.
I lost my internal GPS after my accident so I often forget where I am, where I am going, what I am supposed to do when I get there, and how to get back when I am done. So the Garmin 405 Garmin Running Watch does this for me.
When I trained for the Ironman I also had a Garmin on my bike; it was like a Garmin Running Watch and a Garmin Car GPS had a baby. It gave me Turn by Turn directions, and kept my cadence and heart rate going.
So I have just downloaded my Marathon schedule to my Garmin. I have entered in the Data and starting date of May 30th, when I will be going for my first training run for the Run To Remember.
This is also the first blog entry that will follow me along my training. I will link my training schedule, meal plans, and lead up to the actual Run To Remember that will take place in 2011. BrainTrust and I are still working on the details but it will include a motorhome, lots of shoes, and some fantastic stories.
So join me as I train for A Run To Remember!!
Dave,
ReplyDeleteIt is very inspirational to read about your adventures post-injury. They give me hope.
I was training for a half-Iron last year when I tripped and hit my head. Mild Traumatic Brain Injury.
I was told not to stress myself physically/mentally for a long while. I just started exercising again (it feels good!). I would like to re-enter the half Iron when I am better. Training should be interesting (remembering everything, then being out on the road alone).
One question- what Garmin GPS model did you have on your bicycle? Like you I used to have an internal GPS, and lost it... when I get back to cycling, this would be very helpful.
I'm cheering on the sidelines for ya!!!!
Sincerely,
Heather
